The Planning and Development Act
2000 empowers the planning
authority to designate architectural
conservation areas (ACAs), where it
is of the view that this designation is
necessary for the preservation of the
character of a place, area, group of
structures or townscape which is of
special interest or contributes to the
appreciation of protected structures.
